UCI to Increase Anti-Doping Controls in 2011

The International Cycling Union says its anti-doping program next year will feature more testing of riders whose biological profiles appear suspicious and a new prevention campaign targeting young cyclists.

UCI president Pat McQuaid has met with fellow representatives of the Cycling Anti-Doping Foundation in order to discuss the main anti-doping themes for 2011.

Following the meeting, the UCI said in a statement that the themes were approved and should lead to a "significant increase in the number of controls conducted on riders whose (biological passport) profiles may indicate illegal behavior."

The UCI also plans to invest in "an ambitious prevention campaign" in collaboration with national federations "to prevent young riders from resorting to illegal practices."
